Meeting Jesus in broken places through Kintsugi
Join us for this brand new workshop retreat as we explore a modern interpretation of the ancient art of Kintsugi and how Jesus meets us with beauty in broken places.
This is a reflective, unhurried retreat – with generous space for silence, solitude and contemplation woven throughout. Alongside times of teaching and prayer, you’ll have the opportunity to engage with the meditative, hands-on practice of mending broken ceramics.
This weekend will be led by Charlie Kang, a pastor, producer and Modern Kintsugi facilitator. Find out more about Charlie’s Kintsugi work with the Gather Community, an artist collective.
You will need to bring a ceramic item to mend during the workshop – ideally with no more than 3 broken parts. You’re welcome to bring more than one item and decide on the day what to mend. This is an opportunity to breathe new life into chipped, cracked or broken ceramics – no glass please. If you don’t have anything broken at home, why not ask friends or family, or buy something in a charity shop, wrap it in a towel and give it a gentle tap with a mallet. Please do this before the retreat.
Please note that there is an additional cost of £30 to cover the cost of materials, payable on arrival.
This retreat is open to Day Guests, however you must attend all days and sessions.
